Community General Funding Sources

  • Sierra Health Foundation is seeking Sacramento County stakeholders to apply for membership on the Respite Partnership Collaborative (RPC), an innovative project funded through the Sacramento County Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Innovation Component.  The RPC is a partnership between County of Sacramento, Division of Behavioral Health Services, Sierra Health Foundation and the community at large and will support and fund respite programs in the community as a way to respond to mental health crisis in Sacramento County.

  • The State Farm Youth Advisory Board awards grants to student-led community service projects. Grant: Mantis Awards for Community and Youth Gardens - Supports charitable and educational garden projects that enhance the quality of life in their host communities.

Funder: Mantis.

Eligibility: Nonprofit garden programs.

Amount: Twenty-five programs will receive a Mantis Tiller/Cultivator.

Grant: Navy and Marine Corps STEM Education Grants - To foster an interest in, knowledge of and study in science, technology, engineering and mathematics nationwide to ensure an educated and well-prepared naval and national STEM workforce by engaging students in STEM-related hands-on learning activities with Naval relevance.

Funder: U.S. Department of Defense.

Eligibility: City or township governments, independent school districts, public institutions of higher education, tribal organizations, nonprofits, for-profits, small businesses.

Deadline: Sept. 20, 2012.

Amount: Multiple awards of about $200,000 each.

Grant: College Debate Program Grants - To strengthen debate programs at colleges and universities around the world.

Funder: The Open Society Foundation.

Eligibility: Institutions of higher education with either a very small debate program or none at all.

Deadline: Rolling.

Amount: Multiple grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 each.

Grant: Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge - Encourage students to solve environmental problems through project-based learning. Groups of students and teachers/mentors are challenged to come up with solutions and innovations in areas such as food waste-to-energy, community-scale battery recycling, phantom-power load reduction, systematic behavior change, erosion control, etc.

Funder: Siemens Foundation, Discovery Education, National Science Teachers Association, College Board.

Eligibility: Student and teacher/mentor groups in grades K-12.

Deadline: March 15, 2012.

Amount: Prizes vary and are in the form of scholarships, savings bonds, school grants, adventure trips and a chance to present their idea at the United Nations.

Grant: Teach@15 Award - Helps schools serving any grades 7-12 meet their technology needs.

Funder: Best Buy.

Eligibility: Any teen member of Teach@15 can nominate her or her nonprofit junior or senior public, private, parochial, magnet and charter high schools (serving any grades 7-12).

Deadline: Varies.

Amount: Multiple awards of up to $1,500 in Best Buy gift cards.

Grant: GTECH After-School Advantage Program - Provides nonprofit community agencies and public schools with state-of-the-art computer labs.

Funder: GTECH.

Eligibility: Nonprofit community agencies or public schools with an existing after-school program that serves disadvantaged youth aged five to 15.

Amount: Multiple awards of up to $15,000 worth of computers, online technology and computer software.

Grant: Rapid Response/special opportunities in drug policy - To promote policy change and advance drug policy reform at the local, state and national levels.

Eligibility: Time-sensitive projects that respond to or take advantage of sudden and strategic public education efforts and campaigns to block drug war initiatives or advance drug policy reform.
